"i'm tired of having to fight mud and floods as well as germans," he said. "see if we can't get god to work on our side."
so chaplain james o'neill sat down and wrote a prayer beseeching the almighty to "grant us fair weather for battle". patton liked the prayer and ordered o'neill to print 250,000 copies for distribution to the entire third army. "chaplain, i am a strong believer in prayer," he said.
