Unit 6 Thirstin’ for Love 渴望愛情
Thurston was in the habit of visiting his girl-friend’s apartment from time to time, but always managed to get home at a decent hour with a plausible excuse.
沙斯敦經常去他女友的公寓住處，但他總是設法找個理由以免太晚回家。
But this time, both he and his girlfriend had fallen asleep, and it was 2:00 a.m. before Thurston came to. Thinking fast, he immediately called home, and when his wife answered, panted, “Don’t pay the ransom! I’ve escaped!”
但這一次，他和女朋友都睡著了，當他醒來時都已經凌晨兩點了，沙斯敦腦筋一轉，立刻打電話回家，當他太太接電話時，他故意喘著氣說“：千萬不要付贖金！我已經安全逃出來了！”
英語知識點解說：
1.thirst n. 口渴；渴望 & vi. 渴望
thirst for sth 渴望得到某物
thirsty n. 口渴的；渴望的
quench one's thirst 解渴
例：I feel thirsty. I need some water to quench my thirst.
（我口渴，需要喝些水解渴。）
2.be in the habit of V-ing 有……的習慣
=make it a rule to V
例：John is in the habit of getting up early.
（約翰有早起的習慣。）
3.from time to time 有時；偶爾
例：I call on my grandparents in the country from time to time.
（我有時會到鄉(xiāng)下看我爺爺奶奶。）
4.manage vt. 處理；設法達成
例：Rex can barely manage his own affairs, and do you still want to put him in charge of the department?
（雷克斯幾乎都做不好分內的事，你還想把他調為這個部門的主管嗎？）
5.decent a. 體面的；高雅的
a decent salary 還不錯的報酬
例：If only I made a decent living, I could afford a decent suit.
（要是我生活過得還不錯的話，我可以買套體面的西裝。）
6.plausible a. 似合理的
例：His explanation is plausible, but his manner is very suspicious.
（他的解釋還算合理，但他的舉止非常令人懷疑。）
7.excuse vt. 原諒；辯解 & n. 借口
make an excuse (for...)（ 替…… ）找借口
例：Stop making excuses for being late. You're fired!
（別再為遲到找借口了。你被開除了?。?/p>
8.asleep a. 睡著的
sleepy a. 想睡的
fall asleep 睡著
be fast/sound asleep 熟睡
例：I'm sleepy because I had little sleep last night.
（因為我昨晚沒什么睡，所以現在很困。）
Phil was so tired he fell asleep in the middle of dinner.
（斐爾很疲倦，因此晚餐才吃到一半就睡著了。）
9.come to 醒來；蘇醒
例：The patient came to soon after receiving first aid.
（經過急救后，病人蘇醒了。）
10.pant vi. 喘氣
11.ransom n. 贖金
hold a person for ransom 擄人強索贖金
例："Sir, we're holding you wife for ransom." "So?"
（“先生，我們正扣留你的太太以換取贖金。 又怎么樣？”）
12.escape vi. & vt. & n. 逃脫
例：Go where you will, you can never escape yourself.
=No matter where you'll go, you can never escape your conscience.
（不管你走得多遠，都絕對躲不過你良心的譴責。）
