Student activities do as much benefit as academic study.

There are a variety of ways to learn about a person. The things that person is fond of may reflect some aspects of him, such as books and movies he favors, while the opponents may cast doubt on it due to the complexity of human nature. From my perspective, we could be blind to the real nature of a person only by judging from the books and movies he likes.

Undoubtedly, one’s favorites give some information about his personal features. To some extent, the books he reads expose his education level and profession. A person with low education level will never read a book requires too much intelligence. Unsurprisingly, a large number of people usually tend to choose the books related to his job to read. In terms of movies, they can reveal one’s taste and percipient. For instance, we can never expect purity of someone who falls into porn movies，and similarly, someone who is crazy about operas might not be a worldly friend. Therefore, the books and movies in one’s collection do reflect some sides of a person.

Nevertheless, the books and movies, which in some sense are hobbies, may mislead us in judging him. Hobbies can act as a contributing factor for us to obtain the external information of a person, but serve little in unearthing the internal nature. The following evidence can justify this point. In the World War II, following their leader Hitler, most of the officers of Nazi Germany possessed high level of music taste. They slaughtered innocent Jews while listening to the symphony of Beethoven.

In addition, one’s favorite books and movies cannot be the omnibearing indicator of a person. Some information, such as family background and real personality, cannot gather from the books and movies he fancies. An individual can be multidimensional, which is the nature of human race. We can also learn about a person from the friends around him, because people make friends who are similar or equivalent to them. The only way to learn about a person entirely is to live with him and go through ups and downs together. In this case, there is nowhere for him to hide and disguise. Thus, his virtues together with his weaknesses will be exposed to you.

Taking into account of all the factors discussed above, we may reach the conclusion that judging a person by the books and movies he choose is quite risky and blind. To know a person better, we are supposed to take more reliable ways in different situations.
