毒氣戰(zhàn)
germany was the first to make large-scale use of gas as a weapon. on 22 april 1915, at the start of the second battle of ypres＊, sentries posted among the french and algerian troops noticed a curious yellow-green cloud drifting slowly towards their line. puzzled but suspicious, the french thought that the cloud masked an advance by german infantry, and ordered their men to stand to.but the cloud proved to be chlorine gas. panic-stricken, the french and algerian troops fled in disorder, creating a four-mile gap in the allied line. but the germans, perhaps as shocked as the allies by the devastating effects of the poison gas, failed to take full advantage, and the allies held most of their positions.
德國(guó)是第一個(gè)大規(guī)模用毒氣作戰(zhàn)的國(guó)家。一九一五年四月二十二日，第二次伊普爾戰(zhàn)役開始時(shí)，法國(guó)和阿爾及利亞軍中哨兵見到一陣古怪的黃綠色煙霧慢慢飄向他們陣地。法軍困惑之余，起了戒心，以為德國(guó)步兵會(huì)在煙霧掩護(hù)下進(jìn)攻，下令準(zhǔn)備迎敵。但那煙霧原來是氯氣。法國(guó)和阿爾及利亞軍隊(duì)張皇潰退，同盟軍戰(zhàn)線出現(xiàn)了四英里長(zhǎng)的缺口。但德軍也許和同盟軍一樣，給毒氣的殺傷力嚇呆了，未能充分把握機(jī)會(huì)，同盟軍大部分陣地因此得保不失。

＊伊普爾市位在比利時(shí)西部，接近法國(guó)邊境，是第一次世界大戰(zhàn)同盟軍和德軍三度激烈交鋒的地點(diǎn)。
