military discipline in the british army of the 18th century was notoriously strict. a certain william taylor, a grenadier, having heard a cry in the woods, went there and found another soldier about to ravish a girl. taylor set her free, while her attacker took to his heels. however, the captain of the guard, hearing a noise, found taylor and hanged him without any more ado. it was too late when, in tears, the girl taylor had rescued told the captain what had happened.
十八世紀期間，英軍紀律之嚴，每為人詬病。有一位近步兵叫威廉．泰勒，聽到林中有人叫喊，就走進去，看見另一個士兵正要強奸一名女郎。泰勒放了那女郎，施暴者則逃之夭夭。但是，近軍隊長尋聲而至，看見泰勒，也不管三七二十一，把他絞死。泰勒拯救的女郎哭向隊長說明一切，但已經太遲了。
