讓人捧腹的英語文化陷阱~Spaghetti

　　朋友S說，意大利面食pasta，除實心粉spaghetti外，還有通心粉macaroni，寬面條lasagna，有肉餡做小方塊形的意大利餛飩(云吞)ravioli，細長面條tagliatelle以及細線狀的細面vermicelli(我們將“粉絲”譯作vermicelli，原是意大利細面借之名)。
　　意大利是歐洲第一個吃面食的國家。十三世紀時馬可波羅從中國傳去制面食方法后，大受歡迎，特別是實心意粉spaghetti，以其容易烹調，可以配上各種佐料，很快就風行全國。不過那時沒有刀叉可用，因此吃的都是無湯汁的實心意粉，便于用手抓送入口。現在的肉汁意粉(spaghetti with meat sauce)，是后來才出現的吃法。當然，馬可波羅當年在中國也吃過我們的牛肉湯面或者排骨湯面。但是有湯的spaghetti乃至以之作湯的 spaghetti soup，全是后來出現的意粉吃法。
　　Spaghetti一詞源于意大利語spago，意思是一條線。一條意粉是spaghetto，通常用復數的spaghetti。意粉一碟，面條雜亂，因此車輛往來多，交通混亂的街口稱為 spaghetti junction。
