托馬斯·懷特爵士（1503-1542），英國詩人、政治家。其最大的貢獻(xiàn)是把意大利的十四行詩和三行連環(huán)韻詩以及法國的回旋詩引進(jìn)英國，翻譯意大利著名詩人弗蘭齊斯科·彼特拉克等人的詩歌，并開創(chuàng)英國十四行詩體。著名詩歌有《他們躲著我》、《我的詩琴，醒來吧》、《在永恒中》等。

They flee from me, that sometime did me seek,With naked foot stalking in my chamber.I have seen them, gentle, tame, and meek,That now are wild, and do not rememberThat sometime they put themselves in dangerTo take bread at my hand; and now they range,Busily seeking with a continual change.
Thanked be Fortune it hath been otherwise,Twenty times better; but once in special,In thin array, after a pleasant guise,When her loose gown from her shoulders did fall,And she me caught in her arms long and small,And therewith all sweetly did me kissAnd softly said, "Dear heart, how like you this?"
It was no dream, I lay broad waking.But all is turned, thorough my gentleness,Into a strange fashion of forsaking;And I have leave to go, of her goodness,And she also to use newfangleness.But since that I so kindely am served,I fain sould know what she hath deserved.
