        Should Schools Offer Handwriting Lessons?

     (1) Nowadays, some primary schools and middle schools have offered handwrit- ing lessons to their students, (2) which has lead to a heated debate among people from all works oflife. (3) Some people believe that it is the schools' obligation to cultivate all-round individuals. Therefore, handwriting lessons should be made a compulsory course.

        (4) However, there are still some people who hold the belief that it is useless for students to learn handwriting at all. With the development of the computer age, the chances that we use pens are becoming slimmer. Since almost all documents are typed, we only need to learn typing.

         (5) As far as I'm concerned, learning handwriting is (7) of essentialimportance to youngsters in three aspects. (6) To begin with, being able to write Chinese charac- ters is a basic ability as a Chinese, since the language is an (7) indispensable element of the Chinese culture. (6) Moreover, the practice of handwriting can help develop many capabilities, such as the capability of concentrating.                  Should Schools Offer Handwriting Lessons?

           (1) In recent years, a number of primary schools and middle schools are offering  handwriting lessons to their students. A heated debate arises over whether it is reason-  able to make handwriting a compulsory lesson. (2) Some people hold the opinion that  the schools need handwriting classes in order to cultivate all-round talents.

         (3) Other people, however, tend to believe that handwriting is of little use to the students nowadays. In this computer age, (4) all the students need to do is having a good knowledge of computer programs. Kids today needn't bother t0 1earn the out-of-date handwriting.

         (5) In my view, the schools should open up handwriting lesson as a selective course rather than a compulsory one. (6) On the one hand, the burdens that the kids are un- dertaking are nearly unbearable, thus we shouldn't make things worse by adding hand- writing lessons into their curriculums. (6) On the other hand, some students who are interested in handwriting can choose to attend the course in their free time or during the holidays.
