點睛：
第一個句子的主干為一個簡單的主系表結構...explanation is…a little defective。副詞unfortunately是插入語。第二個句子的主干是…economistsargue that….that后面跟有賓語從句。這個賓語從句的基本結構為structural changes...haveupended…models…，其中structural changes是主語，
have...upended是謂語，models是賓語，其后是一個that引導的限定性定語從句。
本句中的thrilling是分詞形容詞.thrilling有“毛骨悚然的，驚心動魄的;令人興奮的”的意思，聯系上下文可知在本句中意為“令人興奮的”。

英語中有一類形容詞比較特殊，它們帶有-ing或-ed結尾，這些形容詞叫做分詞形容詞。下面將著重介紹.ing結尾的分詞形容詞的用法。
*有一些描述某事物如何對某人產生影響的-ing分詞，具有形容詞的特征，既可作定語也可作表語，可以被very，rather，quite，extremely，really，pretty，awfully，terribly等表示程度的副詞修飾，有比較等級。
The young fellow looked charming in his sleep.

It sounds pretty interesting.
這聽起來真有意思。
The situation was more puzzling than ever.
形勢比以往更加撲朔迷離。

可以這樣用的還有：

*有時候-ing形容詞與其對應的功詞的含義沒有聯系，如：become是“變成”，而becoming卻是“合適的，合身的”。
