during world war ii, the germans sought to relieve the labour shortage at home by forcible conscription of foreign workers. in occupied france, nationwide conscription began in april 1942.
in paris, patriots sabotaged the forced-labour programme. a train bound for germany was scheduled to leave the gare de i'est in october 1942 with 400 workers. only 27 men turned up at the station. nonetheless, speeches were made and a brass band played to give them a send-off.
as the engine slowly pulled away from the platform, the crowd burst into loud laughter. the carriages were not moving. someone had uncoupled them. the locomotive bravely puffed off alone.
第二次世界大戰期間,德國人為補國內勞工短缺,強行征召外國工人。一九四二年四月,在德軍占領的法國,全國各地開始征召勞工。
