　　Mu Yumin had no idea that when he stopped by the computer club as a freshman looking forsomething fun, it would decide his career four years later.

　　大一時，穆玉明(音譯)為了好玩，偶然間加入了計算機俱樂部。當時的他不知道，這個選擇將會決定他四年后的職業。

　　The 22-year-old biology major at Huazhong University of Science and Technology found a job asan IT technician in Shanghai.

　　畢業于華中科技大學生物學專業、22歲的穆玉明最終在上海找了份IT工程師的工作。

　　“My experience in the club gave me another ‘diploma’,” said Mu. “More importantly, I foundsomething I am good at and can make a living from.”

　　穆玉明說：“我在計算機俱樂部里的經歷給了我另一張‘文憑’。更重要的是，我找到了自己的長處，并能夠以此謀生。”

　　Now campuses around the country have started recruiting fresh faces for all kinds of clubs.Upperclassmen and experts suggest a hobby-based selection of clubs, which might have alasting impact on one’s life and career.

　　現在，全國各地校園中各種社團紛紛開始招兵買馬。學長和專家們建議根據個人興趣愛好來選擇社團，它可能會為你的生活和職業帶來長遠的影響。

　　Zhang Ling did not get many chances to write stories as an environmental protection major atJiangxi University of Science and Technology. But this changed when she joined the universitybroadcast station.

　　作為一名就讀于江西科技大學環境保護專業的學生，張玲(音譯)本沒有很多機會來提筆寫文章，然而，當她加入了學校廣播站后，一切都變了。

　　Her daily interviews with students and teachers expanded her horizon. Now she is determinedto become a journalist on environmental issues with her degree in environmental protection.

　　對老師和同學們的日常采訪拓寬了她的視野。現在，她決定利用自己的專業優勢，成為一名致力于報道環境問題的記者。

　　“Journalism changed my life track,” said 22-year-old. “I only wanted to be a science teacher in alocal senior high school. But now I am applying for a graduate school in journalism.”

　　22歲的她表示：“新聞工作改變了我的生活軌跡。原先我只想當一名當地的高中理科教師。而現在，我正在申請新聞專業的研究生。”

　　Lan Yujie, professor at Anhui University of Technology, regards Mu and Zhang as good examplesof choosing “what I like” instead of “what is practical” in finding jobs and seeking further study.

　　安徽科技大學教授藍玉杰(音譯)認為，穆玉明和張玲做出了良好的榜樣，他們在找工作或繼續深造這個問題上都選擇了“個人愛好”，而非“實用主義”。

　　“Some freshmen don’t know what to choose,” said Lan. “Just following a hobby and doingsomething you like can easily give you the expertise that make you happy and special.”

　　藍玉杰說：“有些大一新生不知道該選擇什么。只要跟著興趣走，做自己喜歡的事，你便能輕松獲取專業知識，這會令你心情愉悅，同時與眾不同。”

　　However, choosing a club related to your studies or career plans is not all negative.

　　但是，選擇一些與學業或職業規劃密切相關的社團，這種做法也不能一票否定。

　　Fu Yuheng is now working at a Beijing-based publishing house as an editor. As a freshman atBeijing University of Foreign Studies, Fu wanted to be an interpreter, so he joined thetranslation club. But he soon found that he was better at editing translated text into anorganized format rather than interpreting himself.

　　付玉恒(音譯)現為北京某出版社的編輯。早在北京外國語大學讀大一時，他曾想作一名口譯員，因此加入了翻譯社團。但是，不久他便發現，與口譯相比，他更擅長將譯好的文章編輯成規范格式。

　　“Without the club experience I might have stepped into a field that I am not really good at,”said Fu.

　　付玉恒說：“要是沒有社團經驗，我也許會誤入自己并不真正擅長的領域。”

　　Lan further says that joining clubs should not necessarily have a purpose. As part of campuslife, a club experience will impact one’s life and career in one way or another.

　　藍玉杰還說，加入社團不一定要抱有什么目標。作為校園生活的一部分，無論如何，社團經驗都會對你的生活和職業帶來影響。

　　“The point of clubs is to have as much diverse experiences as possible so that students canexplore more of their life,” said Lan.

　　藍玉杰說道：“加入社團的關鍵在于，盡可能多地收獲不同體驗，這樣可以探尋更多的生活樂趣。”
