　　The elderly have accumulated a lifetime's worth of experience, however, many young peopleoften regard them as irrelevant, embarrassing, and out of touch. As far as I am concerned, thetraditional Chinese virtue to respect the old people needs to be emphasized.

　　老人積累了一生中最寶貴的經驗，但是，許多年輕人現在經常認為老人與自己不相干，老人會使自己難堪，甚至與老人斷絕聯系。就我而言，尊敬老人的中華傳統美德應該予以重視。

　　Firstly, the elderly deserve the respect due to their effort in bringing up their children and theircontribution to society. We should always bear in mind that what we have and enjoy now wascreated by the aged people in the early days, as the old Chinese saying goes, "Onegeneration plants trees under whose shade another generation rests," Secondly, family is oneof the best places for learning values, so every family should inspire younger members torespect the older ones. It is important, therefore, to set an example at home by taking goodcare of the elderly members, so that children learn to adopt this same practice. Familiesshould make a point of including and involving the older members in the family activities anddecisions.
