　　My view on So-called promises

　　As can seen from the cartoon, a hen is making promises that her eggs are all round and consist of shells, egg whites and yolks. In our daily life, many people, just like the hen, keep making such promises in which they take duties and responsibilities as virtues to be proud of.

　　Such promises, absurd and ridiculous even at the first sight, come into being mainly for two reasons. First, some profit-driven enterprises take advantages of such promises to win people’s trust and understanding——their advertisements are intentionally misleading and their behavior is sheer cheating. Second, some organizations and individuals, obsessed with fame and success, are by all means publicizing their deeds, but actually they just assume their own duty.

　　These widespread empty promises will do great harm to people as well as to the whole society. They will result in a dishonest atmosphere in our society——people will lose mutual trust and become more doubtful. As a result, the economic development of our country will be hindered.

　　首段共分兩句，首句將母雞承諾的兩句話簡(jiǎn)練地描述了出來，次句立即進(jìn)行類推（analogy），在日常生活中許多人與這只母雞一樣，把自己的責(zé)任當(dāng)成了引以為傲的美德。

　　次段寫此類承諾形成的原因，在主題句后分兩方面來說。一方面，某些追逐利益的企業(yè)利用這樣的承諾來騙取人們的信任和理解，其廣告是故意的誤導(dǎo)，其行為純屬欺詐。另一方面，一些組織與個(gè)人為了名聲和成功大肆宣揚(yáng)本來是自己份內(nèi)應(yīng)做的事情。

　　末段寫這些承諾的危害——既危害了人們，又危害了社會(huì)。這些承諾會(huì)導(dǎo)致社會(huì)中不良風(fēng)氣的產(chǎn)生，人們會(huì)失去相互信任，變得更多疑。結(jié)果是經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展受到了影響。

　　【重點(diǎn)句子分析】

　　首段首句的as can be seen from the cartoon是常用的模板句，make promises表示“承諾”，而sell, egg whine和yolk分別是表示“蛋殼”，“蛋清”和“蛋黃”。次句立即借助插入語just like the hen作一類比，說有些人總是作這樣的承諾。

　　次段首句后兩點(diǎn)來說：第一點(diǎn)中使用了破折號(hào)作進(jìn)一步的說明，profit-driven和take advantage of分別表示“追逐利益的”和“利用”，破折號(hào)后的intentionally表示“故意地”，misleading表示“誤導(dǎo)的”，sheer表示“完全的、徹底的”。第二點(diǎn)中使用了插入語obsessed with fame and success是一個(gè)過去分詞短語，相當(dāng)于一個(gè)定語從句，be obsessed with意即“著學(xué)于。。。的”；by all means表示“利用一切手段”，publicize表示“宣揚(yáng)”，assume one’s duty表示“承擔(dān)責(zé)任”，亦可用take on。

　　第三段首句之后有兩句話：前一句中的result in表示“結(jié)果是。。。”，mutual trust表示“相互責(zé)任”；后一句開頭的as a result起承接上句的作用，其后的hinder表示“阻礙”，亦可用affect。
