Recently there have been many reports of a brandnew system among universities,in which studentstake part in evaluating their teachers.
It turns a new page of advanced education inChina,and will have far-reaching effects in theforthcoming years.
The biggest benefit, in my eyes, is that teachersshould do their best to improve not only theirspecialized knowledge and skills but also theirteaching methods in order to meet the needs of theirstudents.
In addition, teachers will pay more attention to self-image so as to win respect from students.
Finally, the teacher-student relationship will be closer and more harmonious.
Apart from the benefits mentioned above, we also face several unavoidable challenges.
In the first place, the students’ evaluation of teachers cannot always be objective—it shouldbe combined with evaluation from authority and colleagues.
In the second place, the most popular teacher may neither be the most knowledgeable northe one with the most advanced teaching method.
What’s the most important, some teachers may become indulgent with their students becauseof this new system.
Only when we deal with these problems successfully can we benefit the most from such a newsystem.
