Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen in eighteen century, is one of the most famous novels in Britain up to date. Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen masterpiece.
Love is the eternal theme of novels. Pride and Prejudice was no exception, bet it not only talked about ‘love ‘, but also mentioned ‘marriage’. The novels about love or marriage are countless in the world. So standing out the masterpieces and be loved by thousands upon thousands people from different countries , which proves that it does have its special glamour.
As we known, Pride and Prejudice has a happy ending . At the same time, it is obvious that at the beginning of the story, the leading actress , Elizabeth, has a prejudice against the leading actor Mr. Darcy, but how does Elizabeth overcome the prejudice and marry Mr. Darcy?
The main story, of course, is about the love and hate between the leading actress ,Elizabeth, who is a beautiful ,clever, gentle , open-minded ,and knows her own heart and full of bravery to pursuit love, and the leading actor Mr. Darcy.
In Pride and Prejudice , you can find some very interesting dialogues. Such as in the chapter 1, Mrs. Bonnet, Elizabeth’s mother, said:’’ Mr. Bonnet, how can you abuse your own children in such a way ? You have no compassion on my poor nerves.
’ ‘You mistake me , my dear. I have a high respect for your nerves . They are my old friends .I have heard you mention them with consideration these 20years at least .’’ the Mr . Bonnet , Elizabeth ‘s father, answered with a forced smile . What sarcastic humor it contained ! The writer successfully depicted Mrs. Bonnet as a woman of mean understanding , little information , and uncertain temper by few words . And the two of them left a deep and clear imprison on the readers .
Followed by mentioning the lead actress, Elizabeth. As readers or outsiders , there is no doubt that it is easy for us to reject anyone and don’t accept a marriage without love just for respecting our own hearts .But if you think it over and read the book again , you will find it needs great courage to reject a rich man. Rejecting her cousin Mr. Collins , an unpleasant person, seemed easy ,however ,her best friend Charlotte chose to marry him. This contrast shows very clearly that this rejection is difficult for a young woman in those days ,but Elizabeth can do it to Mr. Collins without hesitation . However ,, I do feel confused why Elizabeth refused Mr. Darcy ‘s proposal without hesitation ,too for Mr. Darcy was very rich and he was the man she loved . When Darcy proposed to her by saying his sense of her inferiority of its being a degradation of the family obstacles which judgment had always opposes to inclination , Elizabeth said :’’ It is nature that obligation should be felt ,and if I could feel gratitude ,I would now thank you . But I cannot -----I have never desired your good opinion ,and you have certainly bestowed it most unwillingly.” This is why I love the self-respected Elizabeth.
This is a moving love story -------Price gave way to sincerity, prejudice was replaced by love .and they lived a happy life together. And we can imagine that they sat on the lakeside bench at twilight and talked about that green year when the price met prejudice.
